The Little Details Count: Garters

The Little Details Count: Garters

The bridal garter has come a long way since becoming a tradition in the early 14th century. Once used to hold up a bride’s stockings, it’s now seen as a lucky charm and usually tossed into a crowd or for some simply another way to accessorize their  wedding wardrobe. If you choose to take part in the tradition, the garter is a fun way to get creative. Many brides now customize garters with wedding colors, family heirlooms, trinkets, memorabilia, or a petal from the grooms boutonniere. Etsy is a great resource for finding unique designs such as the one’s shown below. Hilary Duff donned one by England-based Florrie Mitton (that can be found on the site) on her wedding day, Lo Boheme out of San Diego offers an array of adjustable silk chiffon and antique beaded garters, while Garter Lady creates heirloom-worthy sets…one for keeping and one for tossing. ~SQ
