Meet Intern EJ

Introduction please…tell us about yourself:

Well hello there, I’m Elizabeth Jane, but for the longest time I have gone by EJ (Lizzie just didn’t suit me). I am a senior at Southern Methodist University here in Dallas double majoring in Journalism and Political Science… wowza for all the 18 hours I have to take every semester, but I really really love my life—I was voted “Person Who Smiles the Most” in the first grade, and not much has changed since then.

Why the wedding industry?

Weddings have always fascinated and delighted me. The institution of marriage has been around for centuries and centuries, however no two weddings are exactly alike just as no two couples are exactly alike. To me, a wedding is a personalized manifestation of love, and it is beautiful to see how each couple decides to tie the knot.

Why do you LOVE working at TWPS?

It is such a great atmosphere and such great people; I get to come to work and write about something I really care about. At the end of the day, I’m helping people with the event that jumpstarts the remainder of their lives. It’s fun!

If you were to start planning your own wedding TODAY how would you describe your style and the overall feel you want to achieve?

Oooooooh…. That’s a tough one! Honestly, I have so many ideas in my head I wouldn’t know where to begin! Overall, I think I would like to keep a vintage and classic feel with lots of BLUE. Blue is my favorite color, I love every shade of blue and so that color will be prominent in my wedding. Soft lighting…. Umm… and keep it small. Family and friends and pets 🙂 Keep in mind though, this is all subject to change, I’m only 21 and I have a lot more things to see!

What do you think is the secret to a great marriage?

I think you have to know the difference between flaws and problems, both in another person and yourself. Relationships aren’t just love, love can only take you so far. We don’t live in movies, so you have to learn to work at things, compromise, accept flaws and fix problems (and don’t reverse the two)… But overall laugh! “A day without laughter is a day wasted.” – Charlie Chaplin. So make it count! Laugh and love and don’t be obsessed with perfection ever.

Enough about weddings…more about you! Do you have any hidden talents?

Hrm… I’m pretty good at picking things up with my toes, and also making posters.

What is your life philosophy/favorite quote?

I would say “Carpe Diem” if it wasn’t so cliché and expected… But I have a couple of philosophies and quotes:
“To live and let live, without clamour for distinction or recognition; to wait on divine love; to write truth first on the tablet of one’s own heart – this is the sanity and perfection of living” – Mary Baker Eddy
“The greatest way to live with honor in this world is to be what we pretend to be” – Socrates
And just to throw in my favorite wedding related quotes:
“Reader, I married him.” – Jane Eyre

What is your quirkiest habit?

I like to floss my teeth… a lot. I also save movie ticket stubs, I have a stack of them in my nightstand dating back to high school.

Name two things you are very good at and two things you are not so good at.

I am good at talking, for long long periods of time… I’m cursed with the gift of gab. I’m also pretty good at playing online Monopoly.
I’m really bad at singing. My best friend has a singing rule for me, the basic premise is that when I sing, she institutes the singing rule and I have to stop.  I’m also not the best at folding clothes and getting them put away…  working on that…

Fill in the blank…If I were a
Magical Miracle Fairy I would Make all Republicans and Democrats get along… Actually I would just make everyone in general get along, because I can perform miracles.

Three wishes….go!

Eek! Well without the ability to wish for more wishes… I wish for all the people that I love to always be near me and in the same city! (My best friend lives in LA and it makes me sad to not be able to see her whenever I want).
I wish for the health and wellbeing of my friends and family to be preserved as well as them to always have more than they need in life.
I wish for the perfect job after graduation with amazing pay, job security, health and benefits, decent hours, a 401k, and a company car.  Oh, and a Tacori Emerald cut diamond ring.  A girl can dream can’t she?
