21 Nov Man-gagement Rings: Do? OR Don’t?
I have some exciting news! My brother-in-law is engaged! Just a couple of short weeks ago he popped the question to his darling girlfriend and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Last week they sent me a photo of her gorgeous, custom engagement ring…and his handsome man-gagement ring. Turns out when he had her ring designed, he had the same jeweler design a matching one for him. I must admit I was a little bit surprised when I got the photo of his sparkly hand, next to her sparkly hand. For one, because my brother-in-law is not a jewelry kind of fella. And two – because I don’t really hear a whole lot about this trend in the US. Nonetheless, he’s rock’in his man-gagement ring loud and proud! This established tradition in some Spanish and Scandinavian countries, ‘man-gagement’, or male engagement, rings are becoming increasingly popular in the UK…and seems also the US. There are a few possible reasons for this I assume. Influence of celebrities like Michael Bublé, who was spotted sporting a man-gagement ring when he was engaged in 2010 – in addition to the rise of more and more women popping the question, as well as many more civil partnerships (can I get an Amen?!). A 2011 US survey found as many as one in twenty American grooms-to-be now wear a male engagement ring. So what do you think? Do you think the man-gagement ring will continue to grow to become a tradition or do think this is a trend?
