Jane Austen Wedding Ideas

Jane Austen Wedding Ideas

For centuries Jane Austen’s novels have defined romance and happily ever after.  She published several works including Sense and Sensibility, Emma, and Pride and Prejudice; and womankind has her to thank for the creation of characters such as Mr. Darcy and Mr. Knightly.  Essentially, Jane Austen provided the blueprints for romantic bliss.  You can take a cue from her novels when planning a wedding by incorporating some of these ideas:

Empire Waisted Gown.

The empire waisted gown is a staple of an Austen inspired wedding.  An updated version of the 1800’s gown is prefect for a romantic feel, the style is elegant and soft and flows beautifully down the aisle.

The same dress theme applies to bridesmaids as well, empire waisted dresses in any color will add to a Jane Austen feel.

Breakfast Reception

In the Regency period, when Jane Austen wrote her novels, weddings occurred before noon and the reception was a breakfast.  So instead of a nighttime reception, have a breakfast buffet before you jet off on your honeymoon.

Simple Jewelry

The most popular gemstone during the Regency Period was the diamond, but pearls were also very popular.  So keep it simple with your diamond engagement ring and a strand of pearls to garnish yourself.

Inscribed Wedding Shoes

As a token to remember the day, brides would keep one of their shoes with notes inscribed on the instep documenting the wedding.

These few ideas should help fulfill a Jane Austen dream wedding!
