I’d like to start this post by shouting a big whoop! whoop! to all the Aggie’s out there.  This ones for you (you know who you are) and she’s a beaut!  One of my favorite destination weddings is when couples go back to a special place they shared.  This lovely couple exchanged vows at the Miramont Country Club in College Station where they met while attending University.  Each and every romantic detail from this wedding was captured by Texas photographer Claire Miranda – from the romantic color palette of dusty rose, gray, and ivory – as well as all the thoughtful little details from their Alma Mater.  And I cannot wrap this post without mentioning this bride’s gorgeous full lace gown which seemed to compliment the ultra-romantic and charming feel of her big day.  Congrats and Best Wishes Steph and Andy!

How we met – Andy and I met in grad school at Texas A&M (we both did our undergrad there as well). We actually met before school started at the interview conference that was part of the application process, but we didn’t go on our first date until classes started that fall. We dated all through grad school, both got jobs in Houston upon graduation in 2011, and he proposed in September 2012.

Wedding Planning – Planning was tricky for us because we ended up having to do a lot of it long distance. My job transferred me to Denver, CO in December 2012, and the wedding was to be in College Station, TX in April. We took a few trips back during the months leading up to the wedding to meet with vendors, but my mother took the lead and handled things that we couldn’t be there for. We couldn’t have done it without her!

Inspiration – I don’t know, pretty things? Ha I didn’t really have a specific theme in mind when I started in planning. Texas A&M has always been a big part of both of our lives – aside from both going to school there, all of our siblings did as well, and my parents actually live in College Station. It was easy to decide that was where we wanted to get married, and the venue that we chose is just beautiful all on its own. So, I guess I would say that Miramont Country Club was my inspiration- the color scheme and the elegance of the decor was a great place to start when deciding the look and feel of the day.

Style – We wanted it to be elegant but also just a really fun party. To make it personal, we incorporated a lot of Texas and Texas A&M details, from the menu (which included quail bites, southwestern chicken, Texas-style bruschetta, and pecan-crusted trout), to our exit (everyone waved 12th Man towels).  In lieu of a groom’s cake, we did a cookie and milk bar, Andy’s all-time favorite dessert, and we cut our cake with Andy’s saber from his time in the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets. Andy, his groomsmen, and our dads wore black cowboy boots with their tuxes, as well as A&M cufflinks as their gifts.

Favorite Memories – Man, the whole day was so special, it’s hard to pinpoint just a few. The morning of the wedding I spent with all of my bridesmaids with brunch and getting ready together, and Andy spent the morning with his groomsmen barbecuing by the lake- it was a great way to start our day with all of our favorite people. Andy and I wanted to be traditional and not see each other before the ceremony, but we wrote letters to each other and read them before the ceremony while standing on either side of a wall. It was such an awesome moment to share together but still keep tradition. Andy’s dad is a judge and also in the process of becoming an ordained Episcopalian priest- he performed our ceremony, which obviously made it even more special. And everything about our reception was just a blast – we couldn’t believe when it was midnight and time to go.

Advice – Just the same things everyone always tells you- enjoy every second of it. Make sure it’s the kind of celebration you and your future husband want- don’t worry about pleasing anyone else, this is the one day that is all about the two of you. And don’t let small details stress you out, you won’t remember any of it when it’s time to marry the love of your life and then celebrate it with everyone close to you.
