Today we’re bringing you a Charming Houmas House Plantation Wedding by Mark Eric Weddings.  This handsome bride and groom exchanged vows in an outdoor ceremony among lush gardens, cascading trees, and lots of mossy Southern charm.  The bride wore a jaw-dropping gown perfect for a plantation wedding and her groom in a dashing gray suit.  The bridesmaids wore knee-length gray dresses and carried stunning bouquets of white, silver, and sage.  And oh-my-word these little flower girls in their tulle and lace dresses, gold lace crowns, waiving their “Here Comes the Bride” flags…doesn’t get more darling than this! This magical reception featured navy sequined linens, green velvet antique chairs, and candle light galore.  And if all this wasn’t enough this gorgeous affair ended with a second line through the streets of New Orleans!  This is what we call the perfect ending to a perfect day!

{Q&A with the Mr. & Mrs. }

Q. How did you two meet?

A. Ryan was coming from Chicago and I from Texas, both were fresh out of journalism school and we applied for the same reporting job at a small newspaper in Michigan. I got the job but they liked Ryan so much they hired him too. We both were dating other people at the time so it took a while for us to notice each other, but our first hangout was a lunch at Taco Bell, where I mostly asked Ryan questions about his girlfriend and chalupas. When those relationships fizzled out, we got closer through playing on the company softball team and our common frustration with the town’s lack of restaurants. We ended up working at that paper for 3.5 years before moving to New York in 2010.

Q. How did he/she ask you out for your first date?

A. I asked Ryan to play tennis, I thought it was just as friends but he thought it was a date. I especially didn’t think it was a date because he showed no mercy and skunked me on the tennis court. A more formal and less competitive date happened a week later. I had never had Indian food and he took me to the town’s only Indian restaurant (which closed a month later!)

Q. Tell us about the proposal. We want all the details!

A. Ryan and Lori had just arrived in Bluffton, South Carolina, to visit his dad and step-mom’s new home. The proposal went a little something like this:

Ryan: Wanna go check out the backyard with me?

Lori: Sure, let’s bring Squeaky (our chihuahua).

Ryan: No, let’s not.

Lori: Why would we not bring Squeaky?

Ryan: Um, he might run away and get lost.

So they went out into the large backyard, and afer a few minutes, Squeaky came bounding toward them with a neon green bow on his neck.

Lori: Oh that’s so smart! They put a bow on him so we could see him if he runs away! Ryan, what are you doing? Don’t take off the bow. Stop it. What are you doing? We won’t be able to see him…

Then Lori saw that her great-great grandmother’s ring was tied onto the bow, and Ryan dropped down on one knee and proposed. Fortunately for them, his family, brother and sister-in-law were inside taking photos and ready to celebrate with champagne.
